The Rice Owls will end their 2014 Spring Football activities with the annual Blue-Gray Spring Game at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 11, kicking off three days of football-related festivities for the Owls that also includes the annual football golf tournament the following day before concluding on Sunday when the 2013 Conference USA Champions receive their championship rings at the annual Rice Football Awards Banquet.
The Owls will play their Spring Game under the lights for the second consecutive year. The game will once again feature the offense vs. the defense utilizing a scoring system that awards points for a number of results in addition to the traditional touchdowns and field goals. Admission to the event is free.
After the current group of Owls close out their spring efforts on Friday, former Owl lettermen will take the links at Wildcat Golf Club to test their skills and lend their support to the program. The event tees off a noon with a shotgun start.
The Owls will celebrate the accomplishments of the 2013 Conference USA champions and honor the 23 graduating seniors when the Owls host the Rice Football Awards Banquet on Sunday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m. at the Doubletree by Hilton Greenway Plaza Hotel.
Among the awards to be announced at the banquet will be the winner of the George Martin Award as the MVP of the 2013 Owls, the Joe F. Lipscomb Award to the Owls top freshman and the George R. Brown offensive and Jess Neely defensive awards, which honor the top players at various position groups.
