The Rice Owls will bring their 2012 Spring Football practice drills to a close under the lights of Rice Stadium when they hold their annual Blue-Gray Scrimmage on Friday, March 30 at 7 p.m. The scrimmage kicks off a weekend of closing activities that also include the annual Football Golf Tournament on Saturday, March 31 and the Football Awards Banquet on Sunday, April 1.
The Owls have moved the start of their 2012 spring football drills back three days, and will now hit the practice field for the first time on Friday, March 9. Head coach David Bailiff made the decision to push back the start three days to allow for additional preparation time for the new members of his coaching staff. Due to various scheduling conflicts, the Spring Game was moved to the Friday night time slot, with the golf tournament the following day.
The Rice Football Golf Tournament will be held at Wildcat Golf Club in Houston. Action gets underway with a noon shotgun start. All net proceeds from the golf tournament benefit the Rice Football program.
Sponsorships are available at several different levels, while both team and individual registrations are available. Owl fans can use this form to register for the day of golf, or to attend the wrap up event..
The weekend of activities conclude on Sunday, when the Owls announce the winners of their annual team awards and salute the senior class of 2011 during their annual Football Awards Banquet. This year's event will be held in Tudor Fieldhouse and kick off with a silent auction at 11 a.m. and the awards lunch and ceremony at noon.
