David Bailiff will make his debut as Rice's head football coach when the Owls host Nicholls State University at Rice Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 1st, in the first of six home games that are part of the Owls' 2007 football schedule which was released on Monday.
The 2007 home slate also features home dates with Texas Tech (9/15), Memphis (10/20), UTEP (11/3), Tulane (11/17) before closing out the regular season schedule against Tulsa on November 24th. The Owls will be on the road for games at Baylor (9/8), Texas (9/22), Southern Miss (10/3), Houston (10/13), Marshall (10/27) and SMU (11/10).
The Owls will play on the road for three consecutive games, with trips to Texas and Houston bracketing a trip to Southern Miss for a Wednesday night game that will be broadcast on ESPN. Additional broadcast schedules and final game times will be released later
This will be the Owls first meetings with Nichols State, Memphis and Marshall, while the games with Baylor and Texas Tech will be the first games since 1995 when the Southwest Conference broke apart.
Bailiff and the Owls will open spring drills on March 12th with the first of 14 practices leading up the Blue-Gray Game on April 14th.
