Rice and Texas Announce Three Future Games

Rice and Texas will renew the longest running football series in school history when the Owls host the Longhorns at NRG Stadium in 2019, the first of a three-game series which was announced by the schools on Thursday. Rice will play in Austin in 2021 and 2023. Game dates will be released at a later time.

The two schools have met 94 times in football dating back to 1914. The 94 games represent the most for Rice against any opponent. Texas holds a 72-21-1 lead in the series, including a 42-28 win in Austin last year.

The game at NRG in 2019 will replace a previously announced matchup with Texas A&M, which requested to release the slot on its schedule due to a scheduling conflict.

Rice opens the 2016 season on September 3 when they travel to Bowling Green, Kentucky to take on defending C-USA Champion Western Kentucky. The home schedule ki cks off on Septem ber 17 when Baylor comes to Rice Stadium.
