Feb. 6, 2014
The Rice Owls and the Hawai'i Warriors, who met for six consecutive years as members of the Western Athletic Conference, will resume their series on October 4 at Rice Stadium in the first part of a home-and-home series which was announced on Thursday. The two schools will meet in Honolulu in 2018.
The addition of the Warriors to the 2014 schedule completes the slate for the defending C-USA Champions, filling the void created when New Mexico State dropped its previously scheduled game with Rice.
"When we were faced with the challenge of replacing New Mexico State at such a late date, we knew we faced an uphill battle in securing an FBS opponent, but that was always our first priority," Rice Director of Athletics Joe Karlgaard said. "Rick Mello (Rice Senior Executive Athletic Director) was very diligent in his search and we are excited to welcome Hawai'i back to Rice Stadium."
This will mark the first meeting between the two schools since 2004 when the Owls took a 42-29 decision at Rice Stadium. The two schools first met in 1999 and Rice holds a 4-2 lead in the series history.
A schedule of televised games will be released at a later date. Conference USA's national television partners are Fox Sports Media Group and CBS Sports Network for regular season games. The league's 10th annual Championship Game, pitting the champions of the East and West Divisions, is scheduled for Saturday, December 6 and will be televised by ESPN or ESPN 2.
