Rice offensive tackle Ian Gray who started all 13 games for the Owls at left tackle in his first year as a full-time starter, has been selected to play in the first annual College Gridiron Showcase, which will be held on Jan. 31 in Arlington, Texas.
Gray will play for the Desperados team in the game which will kick off at 1:30 p.m. at Maverick Stadium on the campus of UT-Arlington. The head coach of the Desperados team is former Oklahoma and NFL running back Marcus Dupree.
After splitting time at guard and tackle and making three spot starts in his first three seasons, the 6-8,345 pound Gray stepped in for three-year starter Jon Hodde at left tackle from the first snap of the 2014 campaign and provided solid play throughout the year. He earned honorable mention all-conference recognition from C-USA coaches at the conclusion of the year.
Gray is one of three Owls who will see action in postseason all-star games. Wide receiver Jordan Taylor and cornerback Bryce Callahan will be in action this Saturday in the 90th East-West Shrine Game at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. (central) and the game will be broadcast by the NFL Network.
