Rice's Chris Jammer and Tyler Smith are back on a football practice field this week, joining a host of players form across the country in Tucson, Arizona for the first annual Casino Del Sol All Star game, which will be held at Kino Stadium in Tucson next Monday night. Kickoff is set for 7 pm (central) with the game being televised by Fox Sports Arizona and other Fox Sports affiliates.
Both players will play for the Stripes team coached by former Fresno State head coach Pat Hill. Former Mississippi head coach Houston Nutt will guide the Stars team in the game.
Jammer made 40 career starts for the Owls at cornerback in his four seasons. He was second among the corners with 28 tackles as a senior and tied his career-best with a pair of tackles for loss. He finished his career with 129 career tackles, 18 passes broken up and a pair of interceptions.
Smith lead the Owls in rushing (860 yards) and all purpose yards (1,169) and was second in receiving with 39 catches for 309 yards. He ran for over 550 yards and scored five times in the Owls last six games, twice topping 100 yards rushing. He rushed for a career-high 170 yards vs. Houston, highlighted by a school and conference record 97-yard touchdown run.
