Blue Defeats Gray, 47-25, in Annual Spring Game

HOUSTON--The Blue squad got going in the second half to down the Gray team, 47-25, in the annual Spring Game, Friday night at Rice Stadium.

The offense used a balanced attack to tally 494 yards of total offense.

Sam Glaesmann led the Owls with 178 total yards and three touchdowns. He was three-of-five for 95 yards while connecting on touchdowns passes to Robby Wells III and Aaron Cephus. He also rushed five times for 83 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown.

J.T. Granato was 6-of-10 for 60 yards and Jackson Tyner was 6-of-15 for 63 yards.

Samuel Stewart ran 14 times for 57 yards and a touchdown. Emmanuel Esukpa had five carries for 45 yards and Nashon Ellerbe rushed five times for 15 yards and a touchdown.

Kylen Granson caught a team-high five receptions for 84 yards. Cephus caught three passes for 55 yards and touchdown. Rhett Cardwell added three catches for 24 yards.

Haden Tobola converted on the only field goal attempt, a 20-yarder.

Defensively, Preston Gordon recorded a sack while also recovering a fumble. Lawrence Cimino and JaVante Hubbard each recorded a sack and Elijah Garcia added a fumble recovery.



The Owls begin the 2017 regular season on August 26 when they take on Stanford in Sydney, Australia.
