Adrian Mayes joined the Rice football staff as the Offensive Graduate Assistant in 2011.
Mayes walked on at Kansas and developed into a standout offensive guard, being named the Jayhawks Offensive Lineman of the Year as a senior. He was a two-time honorable mention All Big XII selection while playing for current Owls' Offensive Coordinator John Reagan alongside current Owls Offensive Quality Control assistant Ryan Cantrell. Mayes was a two-year starter and a member of three bowl championship squads (2005 Fort Worth Bowl, 2008 Orange Bowl, 2008 Insight Bowl). He also excelled in the classroom, earning back-t0-back spots on the Big XII All Academic second team.
He earned both his bachelor's (Business Management Leadership 2009) and master's degree (Sport Management 2011) from Kansas. He served as a Graduate Assistant on KU's Strength and Conditioning staff while earning his masters.
Mayes and wife Amy make their home in Houston along with their two dogs, Marley and Minnie
