One uncle, Bert Adams, originally signed to play football at Rice before he was drafted by the California Angels, then returned to play for the Owls after three minor league seasons. A second uncle, Charlie Adams, played football at SMU, while a cousin, Shannon Boatman, played football at Florida State.
