2012 Bayou Bucket

Rice and Houston played for the Bayou Bucket on September 29, 2012

Standout contributor at tight end while also handling the bulk of the punting chores.

One third of the Owls' talented trio of tight ends while also serving as the team's primary punter... Played in all 13 games and had catches in seven, finishing with 10 receptions for 134 yards... Top receiving effort was three for 53 yards vs. Tulane, matching his career-high (UTEP in 2011)... Eight of 10 receptions resulted in first downs... Averaged 36.4 yards on 37 punts, using his hang time to force 23 fair catches and dropping nine inside the 20... Had a pair of punts of more than 50 yards, including a career-best 65 yarder vs. UCLA.

Finished seventh on the team with 133 yards receiving, including a career-best 89 yards in a start vs. UTEP... Started the UTEP and Northwestern games in place of an injured Luke Willson... Posted career-best numbers against in his start vs. UTEP... Caught three for 89 yards, including a long reception of 51 yards midway in the fourth quarter to move the Owls from their own 17 to the UTEP 37 and set up the go-ahead touchdown... Made his second career start at TE (made one in 2010 at UCF)...Caught one pass for 19 yards at Baylor... Picked up his first career catch, good for 12 yards, vs. Purdue in the home opener... Saw action on special teams and as a tight end vs. Texas... Made the successful move to tight end in the spring and showed consistent productivity in all scrimmages.... Led all receivers with five catches for 68 yards and a touchdown in the Blue-Gray Spring Game.

Finished the season by completing 32 of 57 passes for 409 yards and a three touchdowns... Threw a pair of touchdowns against Tulane in the second half... Came on in relief of Nick Fanuzzi at Tulsa and threw for a career-best 122 yards, including his first career TD pass, 55 yards to Luke Willson... Made his first career start (but as a tight end) at UCF then came on to throw for 57 yards and lead a late TD drive at quarterback... Combined with Derek Clark on a 39-yard completion (career best for both) to set up the Owls final score of the day... Completed 10 of 18 passes for 80 yards and added 13 yards rushing against Northwestern... Made his collegiate debut vs. Texas at Reliant Stadium in the season-opener... First career completion was good for nine yards to Donte Moore.

Made the decision to transfer just before the start of classes at Miami and enrolled at Rice... Worked on the scout team during the fall... Completed 11 of 18 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown in the Blue-Gray Spring Game.
