Rice -- Versatile athlete who took over as a starter corner back once conference action began.
2007: Finished second on the squad and in C-USA with 15 pass breakups... Finished third in the conference with 16 total passes defended, which also ranked 17th nationally... Started all eight conference games and was credited with 27 of his 35 tackles during that stretch... Made his first career start on defense at cornerback at Southern Miss and responded with career-high five tackles, and his first career interception, which he returned for 36 yards... Broke up a career-best six passes against UTEP the most that could be verified among Rice statistics. PBU's were not listed in most defensive stats prior to 1980.... credited with his first career half-sack and also broke up a pass against Houston... Has 31 tackles this year, after coming into his senior season with just one career stop.
2006: Saw action on both sides of the ball as well as on special teams... Opened the year working with the wide receivers and started against UCLA... Saw action at CB against Florida State and was credited with a tackle against the Seminoles... Broke up a pass the following week against Army... Pressed into kick return duty for the first time in his career against UCF, returning four for 51 yards, including a long return of 17 yards.
2005: Earned his first letter by seeing action in five games... Had one pass reception for two yards at SMU.
2004: Did not play due to a series of leg injuries.
Other Rice Athletics: Competed for the Rice track team during the 2007 season after earlier competing for the indoor squad in 2004... Ran a leg on the Owls 4x100 relay that finished third at the C-USA meet, finished fifth in the 110 meter hurdles... With a best time of 14.56, also competed in the high jump and long jump... Clocked a season-best 6.83 in the 60 during the indoor season... Set a Rice record in 2004 with 4,505 points in the heptathalon, finishing fifth in the WAC indoor meet in Nampa, Ida... Also clocked a best time of 51.29 over 400 meters in an early-season meet at Houston.
High School -- 2003 graduate of Robinson High in suburban Little Rock... Two-time all-state performer as a kick returner for coach Jim Eskola... Averaged 17 yards on 20 punt returns as a senior, and caught 26 passes for 481 yards... Had three interceptions and returned three punts for touchdowns in 2002... Helped the Senators to the Class 4A semifinals for the first time in 20 years and a 10-3 record... Junior Olympics decathlon champion... Set school records in the high jump and long jump... Honor graduate who has received outstanding student awards in biology and environmental science.
