Mency Earns Second C-USA Weekly Honor

Conference USA Players of the Week

IRVING, Texas - For the second time this season, Bishop Mency was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. He was joined by UTEP's Vince Hunter, who was named Player of the Week.

In the Owls' only action of the week, Mency made his second start and turned in a season-high 17 points on 5-of-12 shooting at Lamar. He knocked down 3-of-8 three-pointers and 4-of-5 free throws as well. The Chino Hills, Calif. native matched a season high with six rebounds and dished out an assist in 41 minutes of action in the narrow overtime setback.

Through 11 games, Mency ranks third on the team with 8.7 points per game on 39.5 percent shooting. He has connected on 36.4 percent of his three-point attempts and 70.6 percent of foul shots. His 20 three-pointers made rank him among the league leaders as well.

Mency is the only rookie to earn multiple weekly awards from C-USA through the season's first seven weeks as he previously won on Nov. 24.

Rice returns home to open Conference USA play on Friday, Jan. 2 when UTSA visits Tudor Fieldhouse. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
