Evans' 32 Points lead Rice over St. Thomas
Marcus Evans scored a career-high 32 points to lead Rice over St. Thomas, 67-54, in front of a raucous School House Mania crowd Thursday afternoon.



HOUSTON — Rice closes its non-conference schedule this Wednesday, Dec. 21, when it hosts crosstown foe St. Thomas. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be live-streamed on CUSA.tv.

Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Wednesday night’s game with a 9-3 record. The Owls are coming off a 100-93 victory over Northwestern State on Monday.
• Sophomore guard Marcus Evans is fourth in the conference in scoring, averaging 18.8 points per game. He is also fifth in the league in assists (4.9).
• Redshirt junior guard/forward Egor Koulechov is averaging 18.4 points, good for sixth-place in C-USA. He leads the league and is third in the country (as of Dec. 19) in three-point field goal percentage (.57). The Volgograd, Russia native is also fifth in three-point field goals made (2.5), seventh in field goal percentage (.540), eighth in rebounding (7.3) and 10th in free throw percentage (.827).
• Redshirt junior guard Marcus Jackson is averaging 13.8 points, 3.4 assists and 3.3 rebounds and is fourth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.6).
• Sophomore guard Connor Cashaw is averaging 8.6 points and 4.5 rebounds.
• The Owls are second in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 85.2 points per game while allowing 75.7.
• Rice leads the league in field goal percentage (49.9%) and three-point field goal percentage (40.6%) while allowing 43.4% from the floor and 35.7% from three.
• The Owls are also second in the league with 9.5 three-pointers made per game.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is in his third season at the helm of the Rice basketball program. He owns a 33-43 (.434) record on South Main and a 230-119 (.659) record in 12 years as a head coach.

Scouting St. Thomas
• St. Thomas enters Wednesday night’s contest with a 5-8 record, including a 2-2 mark in the Red River Athletic Conference. The Celts are coming off a 99-72 victory against the University of the Southwest last Saturday.
• Sophomore guard Paris Marquez leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.7 points per game. He is fifth in the RRAC in free throw percentage (.822), seventh in three-pointers made per game (2.2) and 10th in three-point field goal percentage (.367).
• Freshman guard Kennard Robinson is second on the team in scoring with 13.2 points. He is third in the RRAC free throw percentage (.864) and steals (1.9).
• Junior guard Bryon Makel is scoring 9.5 points while placing second in the league in free throw percentage (.875).
• St. Thomas is scoring 74.5 points per game while allowing 77.4.
• The Celts are connecting on just 42.8% from the field and 31.3% from three while allowing 46.9% from the floor and 36.4% from beyond the arc.
• UST is being outrebounded, 35.6-to-35.1.
• Head coach Anthony Medina is in his second season at the helm of the St. Thomas men’s basketball program where he owns a 15-24 (.385) record.

Series History
• Rice and St. Thomas will meet for the seventh time.
• Rice holds a 5-1 record in the series and has won the last three meetings.
• The previous six meetings have all been held at Tudor Fieldhouse.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is 2-0 against St. Thomas.
