Men's Basketball Cruises Past St. Edward's, 93-72
Rice shot 63.8-percent of the field and scored a season-high in points as the Owls defeated St. Edward's, 93-73, Saturday night from Tudor Fieldhouse.


HOUSTON -- Rice closes its two-game homestand this Thursday, Dec. 15, when it hosts St. Edward's in the fourth annual School House Mania game presented by New York Life Insurance. Tip-off is set for 11:45 a.m. CT and will be live-streamed by CUSA.tv.

Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Thursday morning's game with a 7-2 record. The Owls are coming off a 70-63 victory over Stephen F. Austin last Saturday.
• Sophomore guard and Preseason All-Conference USA member Marcus Evans is second in the conference in scoring, averaging 21.2 points per game. He is also fifth in the league in assists (5.3) and tied for sixth in three-pointers made per game (2.4).
• Redshirt junior guard/forward Egor Koulechov is averaging 19.3 points, good for fifth-place in C-USA. He leads the league and is fourth in the country (as of Dec. 12) in three-point field goal percentage (.591). The Volgograd, Russia native is also third in three-pointers made per game (2.9), sixth in rebounding (8.2) and seventh in field goal percentage (.533) and free throw percentage (.850).
• Redshirt junior guard Marcus Jackson is averaging 12.8 points, 3.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds. He is sixth in the league in assist/turnover ratio (2.0) and seventh in free throw percentage (.850).
• Sophomore guard Connor Cashaw is averaging 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds.
• The Owls are second in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 84.0 points per game while allowing 74.2.
• Rice is second in the league in field goal percentage (48.4%) and leads C-USA in three-point field goal percentage (.399). Rice is allowing 43.0% from the floor and 34.9% from three.
• The Owls also lead the league with 9.4 three-pointers made per game and are second in steals (7.0).
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is in his third season at the helm of the Rice basketball program. He owns a 31-42 (.425) record on South Main and a 228-118 (.659) record in 12 years as a head coach.

Scouting St. Edward's
• St. Edward's enters Thursday morning's contest with an 8-5 record, including a 0-1 mark in the Heartland Conference. The Hilltoppers are coming off a 74-71 defeat at Texas A&M-Kingsville in their Heartland Conference opener.
• Senior guard Ramir Burton leads SEU and is third in the Heartland in scoring, averaging 16.4 points. He is also sixth in the league in assists (3.8) and seventh in field goal percentage (.500).
• Senior guard John Gramlich is second on the team in scoring with 13.6 points. He is sixth in the conference in free throw percentage (.844).
• Sophomore forward James Taylor is also averaging 13.6 points and is sixth in the conference in field goal percentage (.508).
• Senior forward Ethan Gilbert is averaging 12.2 points. He is eighth in the Heartland in steals (1.5) and 10th in three-point field goals per game (1.7).
• St. Edward's is scoring 81.8 points per game while allowing 74.2.
• The Hilltoppers are connecting on 45.7% from the field and 32.5% from three while allowing 45.4% from the floor and 36.1% from beyond the arc.
• St. Edward's is pulling down 35.2 rebounds per game but are allowing 37.4.
• Head coach Andre Cook is in his eighth season at the head of the St. Edward's men's basketball program where he owns a 108-102 (.514) record. In 13 years as a head coach, Cook is 227-142 (.615).

Series History
• Rice and St. Edward's will meet for the third straight year and just the fifth time overall.
• Rice is undefeated in the series, winning the previous four meetings.
• All four meetings have taken place at Tudor Fieldhouse.
• The Owls have won the previous four meetings by 24.0 points per game.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is 2-0 against the Hilltoppers
