HOUSTON, Texas—Marcus Evans was named Co-Freshman of the Week in a vote by the media, Conference USA announced Monday afternoon.
Marcus Evans helped lead Rice to a 2-1 record on the week. Evans averaged 13.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.3 steals. Evans began the week by recording his second career 20-point game in a 92-84 victory over Lamar, Rice’s first win of the season. Evans scored 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting while also recording four rebounds and two steals. He then had seven points in an 87-81 win over UC Riverside. The Chesapeake, Va., native closed the week by scoring 12 points, grabbing four rebounds and recording five steals against UT-Arlington.
It is Evans’ first career award. Marshall’s C.J. Burks was also named Co-Freshman of the Week. UTEP’s Earvin Morris was name Player of the Week.
