The Chesapeake, Va., native was the Conference USA Freshman of the Year last year, as well as First Team All-Conference and All-Defensive Team.
Evans was second in the league in scoring, averaging 21.4 points per game, which also led all freshmen nationally. He also led C-USA in steals (2.2 spg). His 685 points set a new school freshman record, is third on Rice's single-season scoring list and is the second-most in C-USA freshman history.
Evans also averaged 4.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists. He is third on the school single-season steals (69) and free throws (187) lists. His 21.4 points per game also set a C-USA freshman record.
The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I player who has played at least two seasons.
Lute Olson won 780 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were spent at the University of Arizona. During that stretch he led the Wildcats to 11 Pac-10 Conference titles, 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, four Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1997.
The recipient of the 2017 Lute Olson Award will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com awards banquet on April 31 in Phoenix, Arizona, site of the men's division I basketball championship.
