Getting to Know Corey Douglas

Oct. 25, 2016

RiceOwls.com sat down with this year's Men's Basketball Freshman class for a Q&A. The fifth installment features forward Corey Douglas.

How did the recruiting process go for you?

“Coach (J.D.) Byers came to visit. (Rice) was interested in me. He said they would come down and check me out in about a week. He came and liked what he saw. Coach (Mike) Rhoades then came down. After that, I really became interested in Rice. I started to look up everything (about Rice). I checked out scores and things about the university and I was totally interested in it.”

What was it about Rice that stood out to you?

“It’s a high-level basketball organization and also a great academic university.”

You’ve been able to practice with the team for a bit. What has been the biggest difference in the college game from high school for you?

“The biggest difference is the pace and intensity. It’s a whole different level.”

How have you been able to adjust to the college in general?

“One of the biggest differences is not having someone there with you. (No one is there) when you wake up telling you to go to class. It’s all on you.”

What basketball player do you try to model your game after?

“One person I try to model my game after is Kevin Garnett. His frame (and) the way he’s built, I’m built the same way.”

You are one of seven freshmen on the team. Is it easier going through the transition knowing there are six other guys going through the same thing?

“Knowing that I have six other guys going through it with me makes it a lot easier. We have a really close relationship so if someone is having a bad day we try to cheer him up.”

Has there been a returning player that has helped you out?

“Marcus Evans and Chad Lott have been a really big help to me.”

What are your goals for the season?

“To play hard, do anything that the team needs me to do and win.”

What’s the best advice you have ever received?

“The best advice I’ve received is that freshmen don’t know anything. Just do what you’re told.”

What are you listening to before a game?

“Probably any Lil Uzi song.”

What is your favorite movie?

“Pulp Fiction.”

What is your favorite TV show?

“American Horror Story.”

What is your favorite food?

“Chicken fettuccine alfredo.”
