RiceOwls.com sat down with this year's Men's Basketball newcomers for a Q&A. The next installment features sophomore transfer guard Josh Parrish.
Having gone through the recruiting process once before coming out of high school, how was it this time around?
“Going through it the second time, it was unique in a way. I already had a relationship with Coach (Scott) Pera and some of the assistants, so I felt comfortable as soon as I got it. They showed me around (on my visit) and I pretty much knew that I wanted to be here.”
What was it about Rice that stood out to you?
“Mainly it was the academics. The way that the (Rice) degree is thought of. Also, the relationship that I had with Coach Pera. That was a big factor in me coming here. I knew that I could provide an instant role as soon as I am able to play.”
Being a transfer and having to sit out this year, what are your goals with not being able to play this year?
“I’m just trying to become the most complete player that I can be. This year, I’m trying to develop my game and become as versatile as I can. I’m working on things such as my shot, ball-handling, defense and conditioning, just all aspects of my game.”
What basketball player do you try to model your game after?
“LeBron James is my favorite player and that’s who I really try to play like. I just try to do everything, just like he does, in all aspects of the game.”
You’re one of six newcomers on the team. Is it easier going through the transition knowing there are five other guys going through the same thing?
“Definitely. We’re all going through the same thing. It’s easier to go through it with other people. It makes it a lot easier.”
When you’re not on the court or dealing with academics, what do you like to do in your down time?
“I like to do a number of things. I really just like to watch television. It’s really tough because basketball is my life. I might read or go sightseeing. Just a number of different things.”
What are you listening to before a game?
“I listen to Migos. They’re my favorite group. They’re the GOAT. People like Drake or Future. But, I’m all Migos. That’s all you’ll hear from me.”
What is your favorite movie?
“Malibu’s Most Wanted. That’s a classic.”
What is your favorite television show?
“I have to go with SpongeBob. Anytime it’s on I have to watch it.”
What is your favorite food?
“I’m a Southern boy. I like ribs and barbecue. I’d eat it every day if I could.”
If you could have dinner with three people, past or present, who would it be?
“LeBron James, Quavo from Migos and probably someone influential like Martin Luther King or someone from the past.”
