Oct. 14, 2016

By: Tim Andrzejewski ( sat down with this year's Men's Basketball Freshman class for a Q&A. The second installment features forward Tim Harrison.

How did the recruiting process go for you?

“A lot of schools recruited me early on, but I wanted to make sure that I went to a high academic school. That really helped me cut down the list.”

What was it about Rice that stood out to you?

“Rice really stood out. Like I said, it’s a really great school. But, I really enjoyed the coaching staff and how hard they were recruiting me. They seemed to be really genuine people.”

You’ve been able to practice with the team for a bit. What has been the biggest difference in the college game from high school for you?

“Definitely the intensity. There’s more coaches to every play gets seen. The (intensity) level in everything is a lot higher.”

How have you been able to adjust to the college in general?

“You have more freedom, but you also have to take more responsibility. Whether that’s on the court or in school, you have to take ownership of what you want. You have to put in what you want to get out.”

What basketball player do you try to model your game after?

“I think it’s best to take a little bit from everybody. I really like Kevin Durant, but you can learn from anybody.”

You are one of seven freshmen on the team. Is it easier going through the transition knowing there are six other guys going through the same thing?

“Definitely. It helps having guys who (play) similar positions that haven’t seen everything. We help each other out as we’re going through it. We’re able to come together. Not just the freshmen but the whole team helps each other out and holds each other accountable. We all make sure nobody is slipping.”

Has there been a returning player that has helped you out?

“I’ve gotten help from pretty much everybody. Chad Lott definitely stands out. He’s definitely one of the leaders on the team.”

What are your goals for this year?

“I want to win games and have an impact on the team this year. Hopefully, we’re playing in March.”

What’s the best advice you have ever received?

“There’s so much. I guess it would be ‘You get out of it what you put in to it.’”

What are you listening to before a game?

“I like to listen to motivational speakers like Eric Thomas. I’ll listen to some of him. I have a pump-up playlist that I listen to, like Ja Sean, Drake and Kendrick Lamar.”

What is your favorite movie?

“Either Inception, Interstellar or Avatar.”

What is your favorite TV show?

“I don’t really watch TV that much, but growing up it was Teen Titans.”

What is your favorite food?

“I like all food.”
