Marcus Evans Named College Sports Madness Preseason All-High Major

HOUSTON — Sophomore Marcus Evans was named to the Preseason All-High Major Second Team by College Sports Madness, its staff announced Thursday morning.

This is the third award Evans has received in in the last two days from College Sports Madness, as he was named Conference USA’s Preseason Player of the year and First Team All-Conference on Wednesday.

The Chesapeake, Va., native was the Conference USA Freshman of the Year last year, as well as First Team All-Conference and All-Defensive Team.

Evans was second in the league in scoring, averaging 21.4 points per game, which also led all freshmen nationally. He also led C-USA in steals (2.2 spg). His 685 points set a new school freshman record, is third on Rice’s single-season scoring list and is the second-most in C-USA freshman history.

Evans also averaged 4.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists. He is third on the school single-season steals (69) and free throws (187) lists. His 21.4 points per game also set a C-USA freshman record.

Rice opens the season November 5 when it hosts Our Lady of the Lake at 7 p.m. in an exhibition game. The regular season begins November 13 at James Madison at 1 p.m.
