Rice Basketball Notebook: Cable Car Classic Field Set
Rice faces Rider in tournament opener, Nov. 29
Sept. 20, 2013
Cable Car Classic host Santa Clara officially announced the field and schedule for the 47th annual tournament, set for Nov. 29-30 at the Leavey Center. Rice opens the event against Rider with an 8 p.m. CT tip-off. Santa Clara and North Dakota State then follow in the nightcap at 10 p.m. CT.
Saturday's consolation game tips off at 8 p.m. CT and is followed by the event championship at 10 p.m. CT. It is the first time at the event for North Dakota State, Rice and Rider, while Santa Clara has won the event 16 times, including the 2012 edition.
The tough field includes the 2013 CBI champion Santa Clara Broncos, CBI participant and Summit League runner-up North Dakota State and CIT participant Rider from the MAAC.
Date Change for Middle Tennessee Contest
Rice and Middle Tennessee have agreed to move their initial conference meeting to Saturday, March 1 at 5 p.m. in Murfreesboro, rather than the original game date of March 2 at the Murphy Center.
The programs meet for the fourth time, as Rice trails 2-1 in the all-time series, with each of the games taking place from 2000-05.
The date for the game was originally set for March 2 as the Owls play a home game the preceding Thursday.
Davis Sidelined with Knee Injury
Freshman forward Denzel Davis scored six points on a pair of three-pointers, hauled in seven rebounds and dished out two assists during Rice's summer exhibition trip in Canada before suffering an injury to his left knee in the game against University of Fraser Valley.
Upon returning to campus for the fall semester, the severity of the injury was fully assessed and required season-ending surgery.
The Orlando native has begun rehabilitation and will redshirt the 2013-14 season.
