In the brutal Houston heat, Rice University men's basketball worked out as a team to get in great shape with new strength and conditioning coach Nick Michael.
First-year head coach Mike Rhoades and his staff look to implement a fast-pace, punishing style of play that requires the entire roster to be in impeccable shape.
Among the unconventional workouts the team went through were Friday sessions with the Rice ROTC department on campus and weekly "Road Games" sessions where players were placed in competitive settings and forced to become comfortable with discomfort.
The entire roster participated in the workouts with the exception of transfer Egor Koulechov, who spent the summer playing in the FIBA U20 European Championships for Israel. Late addition Van Green also missed the workout session.
The Owls began class for the fall semester on Monday and officially begin practice in early October before the season opens on Nov. 14 at Oregon State.
