HOUSTON-- Former Owl Max Guercy, owner of a host of school records, has signed to play professionally overseas, the program announced Wednesday morning.
Guercy has signed to play with NH Ostrava of the Czech Basketball Federation, the top division in the Czech Republic. Last year, NH Ostrava finished in ninth-place with a 17-24 record.
Last year, Guercy started all 32 games, averaging 7.1 points. He was third in Conference USA with 5.7 assists, while finishing fourth in free throw percentage, connecting on 84.6-percent from the charity stripe. He also finished eighth in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0) and minutes played (33.6). His 182 assists on the season set a new Rice single-season record.
In his career, Guercy started all 125 games, becoming the only player in school history to start every game. He also established a new Rice record with 503 assists. He owns the top three spots for single-game assists, including a school-record 13 against Charlotte in 2015. The Arleta, Calif., native scored 1,115 points in his career, while recording 356 rebounds and 146 steals to become one of just two players in school history with 1,000 points, 500 assists, 350 rebounds and 100 steals.
Guercy is third on the Rice career list in free throw percentage (.831) and games played (125), fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (4.02) and sixth in steals (146). He was also named to the NABC Honors Court in 2015.
