HOUSTON, Texas — Rice head basketball coach Scott Pera announced the addition of Derek Glasser as Video Coordinator Wednesday afternoon.

“I’m excited to announce that we have hired Derek Glasser as video coordinator,” said Pera. “This is a special hire for me as I have known Derek since he was 13 years old and had the privilege to coach him for eight years at Artesia High School and Arizona State. He will fit in with our staff very well as we continue to build this program. Derek was an elite point guard that was a part of three consecutive 20-win teams at ASU. He was a coach on the floor the entire time he played for me and he will bring great insight to our players. His ability to connect with a variety of personalities makes him a great fit. Please help me welcome Derek to the Rice family.”

Glasser comes to Rice after spending last year as an assistant coach at Caltech. Prior to Caltech, he spent time overseas, playing for Maccabi Haifa in Israel and Kalev Cramo in Estonia.

The Lakewood, Calif., native starred at Arizona State from 2006-10, where he became the first player in school history to record 1,000 points and 500 assists in his career. He served as team captain for three years, playing the most games in school history. As a senior, he was named to the All-Tournament Teams by the Preseason NIT and the Pac-10 Tournament while earning All-Conference Honorable Mention.
