HOUSTON — Rice held its first of ten practices allowed by the NCAA Monday afternoon with just over three weeks before the team leaves for Spain.
“This is why we wanted to go on the trip so badly,” said Rice head coach Scott Pera. “Going to Spain will be a fun experience. (The team) will enjoy the cultural aspect as well and playing three games will be helpful. But, with these ten practices, we’ll be able to get a lot better and really get a kickstart on the season.”
Pera was also excited as it was the first time that he was able to see his five-member recruiting class take the floor.
“That’s the biggest thing. Language, words that we use on offense and things that we do on defense, they need to get used too. But, they picked things up really quickly. They are a group that has wide-open eyes and wide-open ears. I thought that when we recruited them and they certainly did that today. I told them that if that is how they are every day, they will improved tremendously between now and November.”
Rice returns to the court tomorrow for its second practice. The team will leave for Spain Aug. 2 and play three games before returning on Aug. 10.
