Men's Basketball Adds Lott for Fall 2015

HOUSTON, Texas -- Rice University head men's basketball coach Mike Rhoades announced the signing of a fifth freshman for the incoming class in Chad Lott (Shreveport, La./Byrd HS) on Tuesday. The 6-3, 185-pound guard inked a National Letter of Intent to enroll with the Owls this fall.

Rhoades said, "We are very excited to sign Chad to our program at this time. He is someone we have had a long relationship with and knew he would be a tremendous addition to our team. Chad is a very good complement to the incoming class. We feel Chad and his family fit what we want in our student-athletes and he will help Rice Basketball move forward. His attributes allows us to continue to improve on our style of play. We can't wait to get started."

The three-time Shreveport Player of the Year averaged 23 points, 14 rebounds and 7.5 assists as the Yellow Jackets compiled a 27-6 record and 9-1 mark in district play under head coach Rusty Johnson. The squad fell by just two points to the eventual state champion in the 5A Louisiana state semifinals. Lott finished his career as Byrd's all-time leading scorer with 2,176 points.

Lott claimed MVP of the Louisiana High School Basketball Coaches association composite All-State basketball team in 2014-15 and earned a place the all-state team three times. He was named first team All-District 1-5A three times as well, and was the district MVP this past season.

Lott was one of nine players in Louisiana to earn a nomination as a McDonald's All-American. As a junior, he averaged 22.8 points, 11.3 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game as the team boasted a 24-6 record. As a sophomore, he tallied a career-best 25.0 points per game to accompany 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals as the Yellow Jackets went 22-8 on the season. Recruiting services rank him as a three-star prospect.


 

 

Lott joins fellow Rice signees Connor Cashaw (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson HS), Marcus Evans (Chesapeake, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate), Marquez Letcher-Ellis (Houston, Texas/Montverde Academy [Fla.]) and Amir Smith (Missouri City, Texas/Ridge Point HS).
