HOUSTON — Rice men’s basketball coach Scott Pera has announced the signing of Malik Osborne (Matteson, Ill.) to a national letter of intent for the 2017-18 school year, Pera announced Friday afternoon.
Osborne, a 6-8 forward, led Don Bosco Prep (Ind.) to the Mid-American Prep Championship. As a senior at Rich South (Ill.) in 2015-16, he averaged 10.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals while helping the Stars to an 18-8 record and the conference championship. His performance earned him All-Conference and All-Area Honorable Mention.
“I am thrilled to announce the addition of Malik Osborne to the Rice basketball family,” said Pera. “Malik is a tremendous young man that will add a lot to our program. He is a versatile front court player that also possesses strong perimeter skills. He has the ability to score inside and out and be a force on defense with his shot blocking ability. He will also contribute off the court to the Rice community in many ways. I can’t wait to work with Malik and watch his development.”
Osborne joins guards Alec Spence and Najja Hunter as part of the 2017-18 recruiting class.
