HOUSTON -- Rice men's basketball coach Scott Pera has announced the signing of Najja Hunter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to a national letter of intent for the 2017-18 school year, Pera announced Saturday afternoon.

Hunter, a 6-5 guard, led St. Benedict's Prep to a 30-4 record last year while helping the Gray Bees to the State Prep A championship. This past season, Hunter averaged 12.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.0 steals. In 2015-16, Hunter was named All-Friends Schools League Honorable Mention while helping Westtown High School to the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association state championship, the first in school history

"Tonight I am happy to announce that Najja Hunter has signed to play for us," said Pera. "Najja is a versatile wing that can score in a variety of ways. He is also a terrific defender that takes pride in playing both ends of the floor. He will be a terrific addition to Rice University and to our program."

Hunter has been rated a three-star prospect by ESPN, Rivals and 247 Sports.
