HOUSTON, Texas — Rice head basketball coach Scott Pera announced the addition of former Owl Van Green as video coordinator Tuesday afternoon. Green returns to South Main after serving as an assistant coach at Central Park Christian High School in Birmingham, Ala.
“I am pleased to announce the hiring of Van Green as video coordinator,” said Rice head coach Scott Pera. “Van is a person of high character that is respected by everyone in the Rice community. I am thrilled that he will be back in Rice basketball family and be a great mentor to our student-athletes.”
Green came to Rice as a graduate transfer for the 2014-15 season, playing all 32 games and averaging 3.0 points and 2.2 rebounds while being a recipient of the Conference USA Academic Medal and C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll. He then served as a graduate assistant with the men’s basketball team during the 2015-16 season.
Green began his playing career at Columbia, playing in 37 games over the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons before missing his final two seasons due to injury.
“Having played for Rice, it is a pleasure to have the opportunity to come back and work for the same institution,” said Green. “Coach Pera and I became close when I joined the staff as a Graduate Assistant and it is truly an honor to work alongside him. I am very excited for the recent success of the team and we hope to continue this upward trajectory. I am excited about rejoining the guys and I can’t wait to be able to help them achieve their future goals.”
