IRVING, Texas - Senior Seth Gearhart was named second team all-Conference USA by a vote of the league's coaches and media, the league announced on Monday. The forward leads Rice University men's basketball with 15.4 points per game to accompany 5.3 rebounds.
The Wilsonville, Ore. native shoots 45.0 percent from the field, 40.5 percent from downtown and 81.0 percent at the foul line. He adds 1.8 assists per game with 28 steals and 10 blocks in the regular season.
Gearhart was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team last week and was one of 30 national candidates for the Senior CLASS Award. He earned a place on the 2014 NABC Honors Court for academic excellence and has been named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of his seasons with the Owls (11-19, 8-10).
He is the only player in the league to record two 30-point performances against C-USA competition as he notched career highs in consecutive weeks with 31 points in Rice's win at WKU and 32 in the Owls' double-overtime win against UAB. Gearhart ranks fifth in three-pointers made (2.2 per game), sixth in three-point percentage, eighth in C-USA in scoring and free throw percentage, and 13th in defensive rebounds (4.2).
Gearhart also posted single-game Conference USA-best marks in several categories, including six steals against William & Mary, an 83.3 three-point percentage (5-6) at UTSA and a 10-of-10 mark at the foul line at WKU.
The honor marks the fifth all-conference nod for the Owls since joining the league as Morris Almond earned first team honors in 2006 and '07, and Arsalan Kazemi was named to the second team in 2011 and '12.
The Owls head to Birmingham for the Conference USA Championship first round game on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. CT against No. 8 North Texas.
