Rice Falls to Charlotte, 88-75
Rice battled back from an early deficit but it was not enough, as the Owls fell 88-75 to Charlotte Thursday night from Tudor Fieldhouse.


HOUSTON -- No. 10 seed Rice opens the Conference USA Tournament on Wednesday, March 9, against seventh-seeded Charlotte. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and will be televised on ASN. The game will also be livestreamed at americansportsnet.com.

Rice in the Conference USA Tournament
• Rice will play Charlotte in the second round of the 2016 Conference USA Tournament. It marks the first meeting between the teams in tournament play.
• Rice owns an all-time record of 5-10 in in the C-USA Tournament since joining Conference USA prior to the 2005-06 season.
• The Owls made their only semifinals appearance in 2007.
• Rice will enter the tournament as the 10th-seed, the third time they will be the 10-seed in the tournament.
• Rice was also the 10th-seed in 2009 and 2011. The Owls are 2-2 in the C-USA Tournament as the 10th-seed.

Series History
• Rice and Charlotte will meet for just the sixth time overall but the third time this season.
• The 49ers hold a 3-2 record in the series.
• This is the first meeting on a neutral court.
• Charlotte won both meetings this year. Rice fell, 102-73, in Charlotte on Feb. 11 and 88-75 in Houston on Mar. 3.

Scouting Rice
• Rice enters the Conference USA Tournament with a 12-19 record. The Owls have dropped three straight games after falling 74-67 to Old Dominion in its regular season finale last Saturday.
• C-USA Freshman of the Year Marcus Evans is second in Conference USA in scoring and 18th in the nation, averaging 21.2 points per game. He leads the league in steals (2.1) and is ninth in minutes played (33.4).
• Redshirt sophomore Egor Koulechov is sixth in the conference in scoring, averaging 16.7 points while leading the team with 6.8 rebounds. He is second in C-USA in free throw percentage (.858), fourth in three-pointers made (2.5) and fifth in minutes played (34.3).
• Freshman Marquez Letcher-Ellis is third on the team with 10.4 points and second with 5.0 rebounds. He is also tied for sixth in C-USA with 1.1 blocks.
• Senior Max Guercy is averaging 7.2 points. He leads the league in free throw percentage (.871), is second in assists (5.7) and eighth in minutes played (33.6).
• Rice is averaging 76.1 points per game but is allowing 80.5.
• The Owls are connecting on 45.1% from the field and just 32.4% from the three-point line while allowing 48.1% from the field and 41.3% from beyond the arc.
• Rice leads Conference USA in free throw percentage, connecting on 74.2%.

Scouting Charlotte
• Charlotte enters the Conference USA Tournament with a 13-18 record. The 49ers lost last Saturday to snap a three-game winning streak, 80-77, to North Texas.
• Junior guard Braxton Ogbueze leads the team with 14.2 points. He leads C-USA in three-pointers made per game (3.2), is fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.424) and sixth in minutes played (33.9).
• Senior center Joseph Uchebo is averaging 13.3 points. He leads the conference with 11.5 rebounds, which is also ninth in the country, and is fourth in field goal percentage (.588).
• Freshman guard Jon Davis is scoring 11.2 points per game and is fifth in the league with 4.7 assists.
• Freshman guard Andrien White is averaging 11.2 points. He is third in the league in steals (1.6), sixth in three-point field goal percentage (.414) and eighth in three pointers made per game (2.1).
• Freshman guard Curran Scott is scoring 10.7 points and is tied for fifth in C-USA in free throw percentage (.833).
• Charlotte is averaging 78.8 points per game while allowing 80.1.
• The 49ers are connecting on 44.78 from the field and 38.4% from three, which is second in Conference USA, while allowing 48.0% from the floor and 40.3% from three, which leads Conference USA.
• Mark Price is in his first season at the helm of the Charlotte basketball program, where he has a 13-18 (.419) record.

• With a victory, Rice will face No. 2 Middle Tennessee on Thursday, Mar. 10. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be televised by ASN.
