Seven seed Rice meets second seed UCF on Thursday, March 8 at noon in the quarter-finals of the Conference USA Championship presented by Aéropostale.

UCF leads the series 3-1 after winning both games during the regular season. The Golden Knights won 72-67 in Orlando, Fla. and won the contest in Houston 74-63.The Owls are 1-1 in the C-USA Championship after defeating UTEP 77-74. Last season SMU elminated Rice 61-59.

All-America Morris Almond is currently third in the nation in scoring at 26.8 points per game. Ahead of him is VMI's Reggie Williams (28.1) and Jackson State's Trey Johnson (27.1).

Almond also leads the Owls in rebounding and is fourth in the league at 6.6 rebounds a game. He averaged 24.1 points a game in C-USA action to lead all scorers.

2007 Conference USA Player of the Year Morris Almond was named by C-USA coaches and select media as the league's player of the year. It is only the second time in Rice history that an Owl has been named league MVP. Ricky Pierce earned the honor in 1982 for the SWC.

Almond was also selected to the All-C-USA first team for the second consecutive season and has been named to the 2007 NABC District 9 First Team and to the USBWA District VII first team.
