Rice Drops Shootout to Marshall, 94-90
Rice threw everything it had at Marshall, but in the end, it was not enough, as the Owls fell in a shootout, 94-90, Saturday night at Tudor Fieldhouse.

Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Thursday night’s game with a 20-9 record, 10-6 in Conference USA. The Owls have won seven of their last eight games after defeating Louisiana Tech last Saturday, 88-81.
• Sophomore guard Marcus Evans is third in the conference in scoring, averaging 19.3 points per game. He is also fourth in three-point field goals made per game (2.4) and sixth in assists (4.0).
• Redshirt junior guard/forward Egor Koulechov is averaging 18.5 points, good for fifth-place in C-USA. He leads the league in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 46.4% from beyond the arc. The Volgograd, Russia native is also fourth in the league in rebounding (8.6), seventh in three-point field goals made per game (2.2) and eighth in minutes played (34.2) and 10th in free throw percentage (.793).
• Redshirt junior guard Marcus Jackson is averaging 12.2 points, 2.5 assists and 2.4 rebounds and sophomore guard Connor Cashaw is averaging 7.8 points and is second on the team with 5.3 rebounds.
• The Owls are second in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 81.6 points per game while allowing 74.5.
• Rice is connecting on 46.6% from the floor while leading the league in three-point field goal percentage (38.8%). It is allowing 43.6% from the floor and 33.5% from three.
• Rice is outrebounding its opponents by an average of 3.5 boards per game, 37.9-to-34.4.
• The Owls are also second in the league with 9.3 three-pointers made per game.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is in his third season at the helm of the Rice basketball program. He owns a 44-49 (.473) record on South Main and a 241-125 (.658) record in 12 years as a head coach.

Scouting Marshall
• Marshall enters Thursday night’s contest with a 16-13 record, 9-7 in Conference USA. The Thundering Herd snapped a two-game losing streak last Saturday, defeating Charlotte, 93-89.
• Junior guard Jon Elmore leads the league in both scoring (20.1) and assists (6.0). He is also sixth in C-USA in three-pointers made (2.3) and minutes played (34.7) and seventh in free throw percentage (.799) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8).
• Senior guard Stevie Browning is 10th in the conference in scoring (15.6). He is also second in free throw percentage (.851) while connecting on 39.0% from three.
• Senior forward Ryan Taylor is scoring 14.5 points per game. He is also fourth in the league in blocks (1.7), fifth in rebounding (8.6) and 10th in field goal percentage (.510).
• Senior guard Austin Loop averages 11.1 points per game while leading the league with 3.2 three-pointers per game. He is also third in three-point field goal percentage (.448).
• Marshall leads the league in scoring, averaging 85.7 points per game. However, the Thundering Herd is allowing a league-worst 84.4 points.
• Marshall is connecting on 45.7% from the floor and is second in the league in three-point field goal percentage (.372). It is allowing 46.2% from the field and 34.5% from beyond the arc.
• Marshall is being outrebounded by its opponents, 42.1-to-36.9.
• The Thundering Herd lead Conference USA in three-pointers made per game (10.1) and is second in assists (16.1).
• Head coach Dan D’Antoni is in his third season at the helm of the Marshall men’s basketball program where he owns a 44-49 (.473) record.

Series History
• Rice and Marshall will meet for the 13th time, all in Conference USA.
• Marshall holds a 10-2 record in the series and has won the last seven. In Huntington, the Thundering Herd lead 5-1, winning the last five.
• Last year, Rice fell to Marshall in Houston, 94-90.
• Rice is looking for its first win over the Thundering Herd since a 60-59 victory in the first round of the 2009 Conference USA Tournament.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is looking for his first win over Marshall, dropping his first two meetings.
