Evans' Record-Setting Day Not Enough as Rice Falls to Louisiana Tech
Marcus Evans scored 17 points to become Rice's all-time freshman scoring leader, but it was not enough as the Owls fell to Louisiana Tech, 90-78, Thursday evening at Tudor Fieldhouse.


HOUSTON -- Rice will try for its fifth straight win when it closes its road slate this Saturday, February 27 at Louisiana Tech. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.

Series History
• Rice and Louisiana Tech will meet for 18th time overall and the 14th time as conference members.
• The teams faced off eight times from 2001-05 as members of the Western Athletic Conference.
• The Bulldogs hold a 12-5 record in the series, but the series is tied at three when played in Ruston.
• The Owls are looking for their first win over Louisiana Tech as members of Conference USA, having lost the previous five meetings.
• Louisiana Tech won the first meeting of the year, 90-78, in Houston

Scouting Rice
• Rice enters today's game with a 12-16 record and is7-8 in Conference USA. The Owls have won four straight and five of their last six after earning a 76-74 overtime win at Southern Miss on Thursday.
• Freshman Marcus Evans is second in Conference USA in scoring and 17th in the nation, averaging 20.9 points per game. He leads the league in steals (2.1) and is tied for ninth in minutes played (33.1).
• Redshirt sophomore Egor Koulechov is sixth in the conference in scoring, averaging 16.8 points while leading the team with 7.1 rebounds. He is fourth in C-USA in free throw percentage (.849) and three-pointers made (2.6) and fifth in minutes played (34.3).
• Freshman Marquez Letcher-Ellis is third on the team with 10.3 points and second with 5.2 rebounds. He is also eighth in C-USA with 1.1 blocks.
• Freshman Connor Cashaw is averaging 8.9 points and is tied for sixth in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.412).
• Senior Max Guercy is averaging 7.5 points. He leads the league in free throw percentage (.869), is second in assists (5.8) and sixth in minutes played (33.9).
• Rice is averaging 76.7 points per game while allowing 80.2.
• The Owls are connecting on 45.1% from the field and just 32.7% from the three-point line while allowing 48.3% from the field and 41.4% from beyond the arc.
• Rice leads Conference USA in free throw percentage, connecting on 73.4%.

Scouting Louisiana Tech
• Louisiana Tech enters the game with a 21-7 record. The Bulldogs are 10-5 in Conference USA after defeating North Texas, 73-62, in overtime on Thursday.
• Senior guard Alex Hamilton is fourth in the league in scoring with 18.7 points. He leads C-USA in assists (6.1) and is second in steals (1.9) and minutes played (34.9).
• Junior forward Erik McCree is seventh in the conference with 16.2 points. He is also eighth with 7.4 rebounds.
• Sophomore guard Dayon Griffin is scoring 10.8 points per game and is tied for eighth in the league with 1.4 steals.
• Louisiana Tech is averaging 79.1 points per game while allowing 70.7.
• The Bulldogs are connecting on 46.0% from the field and 32.4% from three while allowing 41.9% from the floor and 30.7% from three, which leads Conference USA.
• LA Tech also in the league in steals with 7.5.
• Erik Konkol is in his first season at the helm of the Louisiana Tech basketball program, where he has a 21-7 (.750) record.
