Turnovers Lead to Loss at Louisiana Tech, 74-64
Louisiana Tech scored 33 points off of 23 Rice turnovers as the Owls fell behind early and could never catch up, dropping a 74-64 decision, Thursday night at the Thomas Assembly Center.


HOUSTON — Rice will host its annual Senior Day this Saturday, Feb. 25, when it takes on Louisiana Tech in its final home game of the regular season. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be live-streamed at CUSA.tv.

Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Saturday night’s game with a 19-9 record, 9-6 in Conference USA. The Owls have won six of their last seven games after defeating Southern Miss in overtime on Thursday, 72-71.
• Sophomore guard Marcus Evans is third in the conference in scoring, averaging 19.1 points per game. He is also fourth in three-point field goals made per game (2.4) and sixth in assists (4.1).
• Redshirt junior guard/forward Egor Koulechov is averaging 18.7 points, good for fifth-place in C-USA. He leads the league in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 47.4% from beyond the arc. The Volgograd, Russia native is also fourth in the league in rebounding (8.8), seventh in free throw percentage (.790) and three-point field goals made per game (2.3) and eighth in minutes played (34.0).
• Redshirt junior guard Marcus Jackson is averaging 12.2 points, 2.4 assists and 2.4 rebounds and sophomore guard Connor Cashaw is averaging 7.8 points and is second on the team with 5.2 rebounds.
• The Owls are second in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 81.4 points per game while allowing 74.3.
• Rice is second in C-USA in field goal percentage (46.7%) while leading the league in three-point field goal percentage (38.5%). It is allowing 43.4% from the floor and 32.6% from three.
• Rice is outrebounding its opponents by an average of 4.1 boards per game, 38.3-to-34.2.
• The Owls are also second in the league with 9.1 three-pointers made per game.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is in his third season at the helm of the Rice basketball program. He owns a 43-49 (.467) record on South Main and a 240-125 (.658) record in 12 years as a head coach.

Scouting Louisiana Tech
• Louisiana Tech enters Saturday night’s contest with a 21-8 record, 13-3 in Conference USA. The Bulldogs have won seven straight games after defeating North Texas on Saturday, 85-67.
• Senior forward Erik McCree is sixth in the league in scoring with 17.9 points per game. He is also third in rebounding (8.8) while connecting on 48.8% from the field.
• Junior guard Jacobi Boykins is scoring 14.8 points while leading the league with 2.1 steals per game. He is also second in three-pointers made per game (2.7), fifth in three-point field goal percentage (.415) and ninth in free throw percentage (.788).
• Freshman guard Jalen Harris is scoring 10.3 points per game. Freshman guard DaQuan Bracey is scoring 9.1 points per game and leads the league in assists (6.) and assist-to-turnover ratio (3.8).
• Louisiana Tech is scoring 77.1 points per game while allowing just 65.5.
• The Bulldogs are second in C-USA in both field goal percentage (.467) and field goal percentage defense (.412). They are also connecting on 35.5% from three while allowing 32.7%.
• La Tech is outrebounding its opponents 37.2-to-34.6.
• The Bulldogs lead Conference USA in both blocked shots (5.6) and assists (16.5) and are second in steals (7.0).
• Head coach Eric Konkol is in his second season at the helm of the Louisiana Tech men’s basketball program where he owns a 44-18 (.710) record.

Series History
• Rice and Louisiana Tech will meet for the second time this year and the 20th time.
• Louisiana Tech holds a 14-5 record in the series and has won the last seven. In Houston, the Bulldogs lead 7-2.
• Earlier this year, La Tech defeated the Owls, 74-64, in Ruston.
• Rice is looking for its first win over the Bulldogs since they joined Conference USA in 2013.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is looking for his first win over Louisiana Tech, dropping his first four meetings.
