Rice Dominates FIU for 86-70 Victory
Rice got off to a hot start and never let up on the way to its third straight victory, 86-70, over FIU, Saturday afternoon at Tudor Fieldhouse.

Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Thursday night’s game with a 15-8 record, 5-5 in Conference USA. The Owls have won two straight after defeating North Texas on Saturday, 95-80.
• Redshirt junior guard/forward Egor Koulechov is averaging 18.6 points, good for fourth-place in C-USA. He leads the league in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 49.1% from beyond the arc. The Volgograd, Russia native is also fourth in the league in rebounding (8.7), fifth in free throw percentage (.841) and three-point field goals made (2.3) and seventh in minutes played (33.8).
• Sophomore guard Marcus Evans is fifth in the conference in scoring, averaging 18.6 points per game. He is also third in three-point field goals made per game (2.4) and tied for fourth in assists (4.4).
• Redshirt junior guard Marcus Jackson is averaging 13.0 points, 2.5 assists and 2.4 rebounds and sophomore guard Connor Cashaw is averaging 8.0 points and is second on the team with 5.6 rebounds.
• The Owls are second in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 82.0 points per game while allowing 74.3.
• Rice is second in C-USA in field goal percentage (47.6%) while leading the league in three-point field goal percentage (40.0%). It is allowing 43.7% from the floor and 33.3% from three.
• Rice is outrebounding its opponents by an average of 5.2 boards per game, 38.1-to-32.9.
• The Owls are also second in the league with 9.4 three-pointers made per game.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is in his third season at the helm of the Rice basketball program. He owns a 39-48 (.448) record on South Main and a 236-124 (.656) record in 12 years as a head coach.

Scouting FIU
• FIU enters Thursday night’s contest with a 5-18 record, 1-9 in Conference USA. The Panthers have lost three straight games after falling to Charlotte last Saturday, 95-80.
• Senior guard Donte McGill is third in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 19.4 points. He is also second in the league in free throw percentage (.919), eighth in minutes played (33.5) and tied for ninth in steals (1.3).
• Graduate forward Michael Kessens is second on the team in scoring with 13.5 points per game. He leads C-USA in rebounding (9.5) and is fifth in field goal percentage (.574).
• Senior guard Eric Nottage is also averaging 11.3 points per game and leads the team with 2.4 assists per game.
• FIU is scoring 69.8 points per game while allowing 73.5.
• The Panthers are connecting on 45.4% from the field and 31.6% from three while allowing 46.6% from the floor and 36.9% from three.
• FIU is pulling down 34.6 rebounds per game and allowing just 31.8, good for second in the league.
• Head coach Anthony Evans is in his fourth season at the helm of the FIU men’s basketball program where he owns a 49-70 (.412) record. In 10 seasons as a head coach, he is 148-164 (.474).

Series History
• Rice and FIU will meet for just the fourth time ever.
• FIU holds a 2-1 lead in the series and won the only other meeting in Miami, a 60-56 decision in 2015.
