Second Half Run Sends Rice to 101-79 Victory over North Texas
Rice used a 23-3 second half run to turn a seven-point deficit into a 101-79 victory over North Texas, Saturday afternoon at Tudor Fieldhouse.


HOUSTON — Rice begins a three-game road trip this Saturday, Feb. 4, when it travels to Denton to face North Texas. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. CT and will be live-streamed at CUSA.tv.

Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Saturday afternoon’s game with a 14-8 record, 4-5 in Conference USA. The Owls are coming off an 84-67 win last Saturday against Charlotte.
• Redshirt junior guard/forward Egor Koulechov is averaging 19.0 points, good for third-place in C-USA. He leads the league in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 51.0% from beyond the arc. The Volgograd, Russia native is also fourth in the league in rebounding (8.5), free throw percentage (.841) and three-point field goals made (2.4) and seventh in minutes played (33.9).
• Sophomore guard Marcus Evans is fifth in the conference in scoring, averaging 18.6 points per game. He is also tied for fourth in assists (4.5) and three-point field goals made per game (2.4).
• Redshirt junior guard Marcus Jackson is averaging 12.9 points, 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds and sophomore guard Connor Cashaw is averaging 8.0 points and is second on the team with 5.5 rebounds.
• The Owls are second in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 81.4 points per game while allowing 74.0.
• Rice is second in C-USA in field goal percentage (47.7%) while leading the league in three-point field goal percentage (40.2%). It is allowing 43.9% from the floor and 33.3% from three.
• Rice is outrebounding its opponents by an average of 4.9 boards per game, 37.7-to-32.9.
• The Owls are also second in the league with 9.4 three-pointers made per game.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is in his third season at the helm of the Rice basketball program. He owns a 38-48 (.442) record on South Main and a 235-124 (.655) record in 12 years as a head coach.

Scouting North Texas
• North Texas enters Saturday afternoon’s contest with a 6-15 record, 0-9 in Conference USA. The Mean Green has lost their last 10 games after falling to Old Dominion last Saturday, 73-67.
• Junior forward Jeremy Combs leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 10.2 points and 6.4 rebounds, respectively. However, he has missed the last three games.
• Freshman A.J. Lawson is second on the team in scoring with 10.1 points.
• Senior guard J-Mychal Reese is averaging 9.9 points. He is eighth in C-USA in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7) and ninth in assists (3.6).
• North Texas is scoring 67.3 points per game while allowing 72.3.
• The Mean Green is connecting on just 41.4% from the field and 31.0% from three. They are allowing 42.3% from the floor and 34.9% from three.
• UNT is being outrebounded, 37.9-to-36.0.
• Head coach Tony Benford is in his fifth season at the helm of the North Texas men’s basketball program where he owns a 60-87 (.408) record.

Series History
• Rice and North Texas will meet for the second time this year and the 19th time.
• North Texas holds a 12-6 record in the series. Rice will be looking for its first ever win in Denton, having dropped the previous six.
• Earlier this year, Rice defeated the Mean Green in Houston, 101-79.
• Since North Texas joined Conference USA in 2013, the series is tied at four.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is 3-3 against the Mean Green.
