Cashaw's 30 Points Not Enough as Rice Falls to North Texas
Junior Connor Cashaw scored a career-high 30 points, but it was not enough as Rice fell to North Texas on Saturday afternoon, 85-78, in Tudor Fieldhouse.


HOUSTON — Rice begins a three-game road trip this Saturday, Feb. 3, when it travels to Denton to face North Texas. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT. The game will be livestreamed by ESPN3.

Scouting Rice
• Rice is 5-17 on the year and 2-7 in Conference USA. The Owls dropped a heartbreaker last Saturday, 63-62, to Florida Atlantic.
• Junior guard Connor Cashaw is 10th in Conference USA in scoring (16.7) and ninth in rebounding (6.7). He is also averaging 3.0 assists.
• Sophomore guard Ako Adams is second on the team with 10.0 points and 2.5 boards. He also leads the team with 3.2 assists.
• Freshman Malik Osborne is second on the team in rebounding with 6.3 boards while adding 7.8 points.
• The Owls are averaging 67.6 points per game while allowing 74.9.
• Rice is connecting on just 41.1% from the floor and 31.9% from three. Its opponents are shooting 43.8% from the field and are being held to just 34.4% from beyond the arc.
• The Owls are outrebounding their opponents, 37.1-to-37.0.
• Head coach Scott Pera is in his first season leading the Rice men’s basketball program after serving its last three years as its Associate Head Coach.

Scouting North Texas
• North Texas enters tonight’s game with a 12-10 record and 5-4 in Conference USA. The Mean Green have won two straight games after defeating FIU last Saturday, 69-67, in overtime.
• Sophomore guard Roosevelt Smart is fifth in the league in scoring with 18.6 points. He also leads the conference in three-pointers made per game (3.6) and is second in free throw percentage (.906).
• Sophomore guard Ryan Woolridge is averaging 13.0 points per game. He is third in C-USA in assists (5.9) and fourth minutes played (36.8). He is also ninth in the league in steals (1.6) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8) and 10th in field goal percentage (.500).
• Senior forward Shane Temara and sophomore guard A.J. Lawson both lead the team in rebounding, pulling down 5.6 boards per game.
• North Texas is connecting on 44.5% from the field and 34.6% from three. Its opponents are connecting on just 42.3% from the floor and 32.3% from beyond the arc, which is second in Conference USA.
• UNT is outrebounding its opponents, 38.1-to-34.7.
• Head coach Grant McCasland is in his first season at the helm of the North Texas men’s basketball program. In two years as a head coach, he is 32-22 (.593).

Series History
• Rice and North Texas will meet for the second time this season and the 21st time overall.
• Rice trails 13-7 in the series and is just 6-1 in games played in Denton.
• Last year, Rice snapped a six-game losing streak in Denton, defeating the Mean Green 95-80.
• Earlier this season, the Owls fell to North Texas, 85-78, in Houston.

Next Up
• Rice continues its road trip next Thursday, Feb. 8, when it travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to face league-leader Middle Tennessee. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT and the game will be televised by Stadium.
