Rice Downs Charlotte, 89-70
Rice placed five players in double-figures on its way to an 89-70 win at Charlotte to pick up its first conference win of the season.


HOUSTON — Rice closes its homestand this Saturday, Jan. 28, when it hosts Charlotte. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be live-streamed at CUSA.tv.

Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Saturday night’s game with a 13-8 record, 3-5 in Conference USA. The Owls look to rebound following Thursday night’s 80-72 loss to Old Dominion.
• Redshirt junior guard/forward Egor Koulechov is averaging 18.9 points, good for fourth-place in C-USA. He leads the league in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 50.5% from beyond the arc. The Volgograd, Russia native is also fourth in the league in rebounding (8.5) and free throw percentage (.846), tied for fifth in three-point field goals made (2.4) and sixth in minutes played (33.8).
• Sophomore guard Marcus Evans is fifth in the conference in scoring, averaging 18.4 points per game. He is also fourth in assists (4.6) and tied for fifth in three-point field goals made per game (2.4).
• Redshirt junior guard Marcus Jackson is averaging 13.2 points, 2.7 assists and 2.4 rebounds and sophomore guard Connor Cashaw is averaging 7.6 points and is second on the team with 5.4 rebounds.
• The Owls are second in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 81.2 points per game while allowing 74.4.
• Rice is second in C-USA in field goal percentage (47.3%) while leading the league in three-point field goal percentage (40.0%). It is allowing 44.2% from the floor and 33.8% from three.
• Rice is outrebounding its opponents by an average of 4.5 boards per game, 37.5-to-33.0.
• The Owls are also second in the league with 9.5 three-pointers made per game.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is in his third season at the helm of the Rice basketball program. He owns a 37-48 (.435) record on South Main and a 234-124 (.654) record in 12 years as a head coach.

Scouting Charlotte
• Charlotte enters Saturday night’s contest with a 10-9 record, 4-4 in Conference USA. The 49ers have won three straight games after defeating North Texas on Thursday, 82-81.
• Sophomore guard Jon Davis leads the team in scoring, averaging 19.5 points per game, which is second in C-USA. He is also third in the league in three-point field goal percentage (43.7%) and minutes (35.5), eighth in assists (3.9) and 10th free throw percentage (.805).
• Sophomore guard Andrien White is second on the team in scoring with 11.3 points. He is fourth in the league in steals (1.6), eighth in three-pointers made per game (2.2) and 10th in three-point field goal percentage (38.5%).
• Senior guard Braxton Ogbueze is averaging 10.5 points per game and is seventh in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (39.8%).
• Charlotte is scoring 78.8 points per game while allowing 81.5.
• The 49ers are connecting on 44.7% from the field and 38.6% from three, which is second in the league while allowing 46.2% from the floor and 38.0% from three.
• Charlotte is being outrebounded by 7.7 boards per game, 40.6-to-32.8.
• Head coach Mark Price is in his second season at the helm of the Charlotte men’s basketball program where he owns a 24-28 (.462) record.

Series History
• Rice and Charlotte will meet for the second time this year and the eighth time.
• Charlotte holds a 4-3 record in the series and is 2-1 in game splayed in Houston.
• Rice snapped a four-game losing streak to the 49ers earlier this year, winning 89-70 in Charlotte.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is 2-4 against Charlotte.
