Evans Scores 32 to Lead Rice to Overtime Win at Southern Miss
Marcus Evans tied a career-high with 32 points and Max Guercy hit a three to send the game into overtime as Rice came back from a seven-point deficit with 38 seconds left to stun Southern Miss, 76-74, in overtime.


HOUSTON -- Rice looks to turn things around this Saturday, Jan. 21, when it travels to Hattiesburg, Miss., to face Southern Miss. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. CT and will be live-streamed at CUSA.tv.

Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Saturday afternoon's game with a 12-7 record, 2-4 in Conference USA. The Owls have lost three of four games after falling at Louisiana Tech on Thursday night, 74-64.
• Redshirt junior guard/forward Egor Koulechov is averaging 19.4 points, good for second-place in C-USA. He leads the league in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 52.9% from beyond the arc. The Volgograd, Russia native is also fourth in the league in rebounding (8.4), free throws percentage (.844) and three-point field goals made (2.4) and eighth in minutes played (33.5).
• Sophomore guard Marcus Evans is fifth in the conference in scoring, averaging 18.2 points per game. He is also fourth in assists (4.7) and tied for ninth in three-point field goals made per game (2.2).
• Redshirt junior guard Marcus Jackson is averaging 13.3 points, 2.9 assists and 2.5 rebounds and sophomore guard Connor Cashaw is averaging 7.8 points and is second on the team with 5.5 rebounds.
• The Owls are second in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 82.8 points per game while allowing 74.9.
• Rice leads the league in field goal percentage (48.3%) and is second in three-point field goal percentage (39.6%) while allowing 43.9% from the floor and 34.6% from three.
• Rice is outrebounding its opponents by an average of 5.9 boards per game, 38.2-to-32.2.
• The Owls are also second in the league with 9.3 three-pointers made per game.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is in his third season at the helm of the Rice basketball program. He owns a 36-47 (.434) record on South Main and a 233-123 (.654) record in 12 years as a head coach.

Scouting Southern Miss
• Southern Miss enters Saturday afternoon's contest with a 6-12 record, 3-3 in Conference USA. The Golden Eagles snapped a two-game losing streak after defeating North Texas, 75-65, Thursday night.
• Senior guard/forward Quinton Campbell leads the team with 12.6 points and 5.5 rebounds.
• Sophomore guard Cortez Edwards is scoring 9.4 points while leading the team with 2.9 assists. He is also pulling down 4.5 rebounds per game.
• Southern Miss is scoring just 62.1 points per game while allowing 71.0.
• The Golden Eagles are connecting on just 39.9% from the field and 29.9% from three while allowing 43.0% from the floor and 35.8% from three.
• Southern Miss is being outrebounded, 36.4-to-34.5.
• Head coach Doc Sadler is in his third season at the helm of the Southern Miss men's basketball program where he owns a 17-53 (.243) record. In 11 years as a head coach, Sadler is 166-160 (.509).

Series History
• Rice and Southern Miss will meet for the 16th time.
• USM holds an 8-7 record in the series but Rice has won the last three.
• Last year, the Owls swept the series.
• In games played in Hattiesburg, the Golden Eagles lead, 5-2.
