Rice Drops Road Finale at Louisiana Tech
Rice could never get things going as the Owls had its four-game winning streak snapped, 88-69, Saturday night at the Thomas Assembly Center.


HOUSTON — Rice begins a two-game road trip this Thursday, Jan. 19, when it travels to Ruston, La., to face Louisiana Tech. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. CT and will be live-streamed at CUSA.tv.

Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Thursday night’s game with a 12-6 record, 2-3 in Conference USA. The Owls snapped a two-game losing streak after defeating North Texas, 101-79, Saturday afternoon.
• Redshirt junior guard/forward Egor Koulechov is averaging 19.9 points, good for second-place in C-USA. He leads the nation (as of Jan. 17) in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 55.4% from beyond the arc. The Volgograd, Russia native is also third in the league in free throws percentage (.849) and three-point field goals made (2.6), fourth in rebounding (8.4), seventh in field goal percentage (.533) and eighth in minutes played (33.5).
• Sophomore guard Marcus Evans is fourth in the conference in scoring, averaging 18.6 points per game. He is also fourth in assists (4.8) and ninth in three-point field goals made per game (2.2).
• Redshirt junior guard Marcus Jackson is averaging 13.1 points, 3.0 assists and 2.7 rebounds and sophomore guard Connor Cashaw is averaging 8.1 points and is second on the team with 5.4 rebounds.
• The Owls are second in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 83.8 points per game while allowing 75.0.
• Rice leads the league in field goal percentage (48.6%) and is second in three-point field goal percentage (39.3%) while allowing 43.6% from the floor and 34.4% from three.
• Rice is outrebounding its opponents by an average of 5.9 boards per game, 38.1-to-32.2.
• The Owls are also second in the league with 9.2 three-pointers made per game.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is in his third season at the helm of the Rice basketball program. He owns a 36-46 (.439) record on South Main and a 233-122 (.656) record in 12 years as a head coach.

Scouting Louisiana Tech
• Louisiana Tech enters Thursday night’s contest with a 12-6 record, 4-1 in Conference USA. The Bulldogs have won two straight and five of six after defeating Old Dominion, 75-63, Saturday afternoon.
• Senior forward Erik McCree is eighth in the league in scoring, averaging 17.2 points per game. He is also second in the league in rebounding (8.7) while connecting on 51.9% from the field.
• Junior guard Jacobi Boykins is second on the team in scoring (15.0). He leads C-USA in steals (2.3), is second in three-point field goals per game (3.0), fourth in three-point field goal percentage (44.3%) and ninth in free throw percentage (81.6%).
• Junior forward Omar Sherman is scoring 9.6 points and is second in the conference in field goal percentage (59.2%).
• Louisiana Tech is scoring 77.2 points per game while allowing just 63.8, which is second in Conference USA.
• The Bulldogs are connecting on 48.0% from the field and 34.8% from three. They are second in the league in field goal percentage defense (40.2%) and lead the lead in three-point field goal percentage defense (30.7%).
• La Tech is outrebounding its opponents, 37.2-to-33.6 and lead the league in blocks (5.7) and assists (16.3).
• Head coach Eric Konkol is in his second season at the helm of the Louisiana Tech men’s basketball program where he owns a 35-16 (.686) record.

Series History
• Rice and Louisiana Tech will meet for the 19th time.
• Louisiana Tech holds a 13-5 record in the series and has won the last six. In Ruston, the Bulldogs lead 4-3.
• Last year, Louisiana Tech won both meetings.
• Rice is looking for its first win over the Bulldogs since they joined Conference USA in 2013.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is looking for his first win over Louisiana Tech, dropping his first four meetings.
