Fast Start Propels Rice to 95-80 win at North Texas
Rice jumped out to an 18-2 lead and never looked back, as 11 Owls found the scoresheet in a 95-80 victory over North Texas, Saturday afternoon at the Super Pit.

HOUSTON — Rice closes its three-game homestand this Saturday, Jan. 13 when it hosts North Texas. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT. The game will be livestreamed at ESPN3.

Scouting Rice
• Rice is 4-13 on the year and 1-3 in Conference USA. The snapped a six-game losing streak last Saturday, defeating Charlotte, 73-64.
• Junior guard Connor Cashaw is 10th in Conference USA in scoring (15.9) and ninth in rebounding (6.7). He is also averaging 3.0 assists and 2.0 three-pointers per game.
• Graduate guard A.J. Lapray is second on the team with 10.6 points and is connecting on 44.0% from beyond the arc.
• Sophomore guard Ako Adams is averaging 9.3 points and 2.8 boards. He also leads the team with 3.2 assists.
• Freshman Malik Osborne is second on the team in rebounding with 6.2 boards.
• The Owls are averaging 67.4 points per game while allowing 75.4.
• Rice is connecting on just 39.8% from the floor and 31.4% from three. Its opponents are shooting 44.0% from the field and are being held to just 32.9% from beyond the arc.
• The Owls, however, are being outrebounded by the opposition, 37.8-to-37.5.
• Head coach Scott Pera is in his first season leading the Rice men’s basketball program after serving its last three years as its Associate Head Coach.

Scouting North Texas
• North Texas enters tonight’s game with a 9-8 record and 2-2 in Conference USA. The Mean Green have lost two straight games after falling to Old Dominion, 63-60, last Saturday.
• Sophomore guard Roosevelt Smart is fifth in Conference USA with 18.0 points per game. He also leads the league in three-pointers made per game (3.2) and is second in in free throw percentage (.896).
• Sophomore guard Ryan Woolridge is second on the team with 12.8 points. He is fourth in the conference in minutes played (36.4), sixth in assists (5.1), is tied for ninth in steals (1.6) and is 10th in assists-to-turnover ratio (1.7).
• Senior forward Shane Temara is averaging 10.6 points while leading the team with 6.4 rebounds.
• North Texas is scoring 74.5 points per game while allowing 71.3.
• The Mean Green is connecting on 45.6% from the field and 34.5% from three. Its opponents are connecting on 42.3% from the floor but 33.3% from beyond the arc.
• UNT is outrebounding its opponents, 37.6-to-34.6.
• Head coach Grant McCasland is in his first season at the helm of the North Texas men’s basketball program, where he holds a 9-8 (.529) record. In two years as a head coach, McCasland is 29-20 (.591).

Series History
• Rice and North Texas will meet in the first of two games this year and the 20th time overall.
• Rice will also play at North Texas On Feb. 3.
• North Texas holds a 12-7 record in the series, but the Owls have won the last three games and four of the last five.
• Since North Texas joined Conference USA in 2013, Rice leads 5-4.
