Rice Uses Late Run to Pull Away From Charlotte, 84-67
Rice got off to a fast start and pulled away late, defeating Charlotte 84-67, Saturday night at Tudor Fieldhouse.

HOUSTON — Rice continues its homestand this Saturday, Jan. 6 when it hosts Charlotte. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT. The game will be livestreamed at ESPN3.

Scouting Rice
• Rice is 3-13 on the year and 0-3 in Conference USA. The Owls are looking to snap a six-game losing streak after falling to Old Dominion in overtime on Thursday, 82-75.
• Junior guard Connor Cashaw is 10th in Conference USA in scoring (16.2) and eighth in rebounding (6.9). He is also averaging 3.1 assists and 2.1 three-pointers per game.
• Graduate guard A.J. Lapray is second on the team with 10.6 points and is connecting on 44.0% from beyond the arc.
• Sophomore guard Ako Adams is averaging 8.6 points and 2.8 boards. He also leads the team with 3.3 assists.
• Freshman Malik Osborne is second on the team in rebounding with 6.3 boards.
• The Owls are averaging 67.1 points per game while allowing 76.1.
• Rice is connecting on just 39.4% from the floor and 31.1% from three. Its opponents are shooting 44.4% from the field and are being held to just 33.5% from beyond the arc.
• The Owls are also outrebounding their opponents, 37.9-to-37.7.
• Head coach Scott Pera is in his first season leading the Rice men’s basketball program after serving its last three years as its Associate Head Coach.

Scouting Charlotte
• Charlotte enters tonight’s game with a 5-8 record and 1-1 in Conference USA. The 49ers snapped a two-game losing streak on Thursday after defeating North Texas, 70-68.
• Junior guard Andrien White leads the squad with 14.2 points and 5.0 rebounds.
• Junior guard is second on the team in scoring with 12.9 points. He is also fourth in the conference with 5.5 assists.
• Sophomore forward Najee Garvin is adding 8.5 points and is second on the team with 4.8 rebounds.
• Charlotte is scoring 72.2 points per game while allowing 75.5.
• The 49ers are connecting on 44.0% from the field and 37.2% from three. Their opponents are connecting on 46.3% from the floor but 33.1% from beyond the arc.
• Charlotte is being outrebounded by its opponents, 36.5-to-34.5.
• Interim head coach Houston Fancher is in his first season at the helm of the Charlotte men’s basketball program, where he holds a 2-2 (.500) record. In 13 years as a head coach, Fancher is 183-179 (.506).

Series History
• Rice and Charlotte will meet for the ninth time overall. The series is tied at four.
• In games played in Houston, the series is tied at two.
• Last year, Rice swept the season series, winning 89-70 in Charlotte and 84-67 in Houston.
