Season Ends as Rice Falls 79-69 to Charlotte in C-USA Tournament
Charlotte closed the game on an 18-8 as Rice fell, 79-69, in the second round of the Conference USA Tournament.



HOUSTON — Rice closes its conference opening road trip this Monday, Jan. 2, when it travels to Charlotte, N.C., to face Charlotte. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CT and will be live-streamed on ESPN3.

Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Thursday night’s game with a 10-4 record, 0-1 in Conference USA. The Owls dropped their conference opener, 62-56, at Old Dominion last Saturday.
• Redshirt junior guard/forward Egor Koulechov is averaging 18.2 points, good for fourth-place in C-USA. He leads Conference USA in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 58.6% from beyond the arc. The Volgograd, Russia native is also fourth in three-point field goals made (2.4) and seventh in both rebounding (7.4) and field goal percentage (.543).
• Sophomore guard Marcus Evans is eighth in the conference in scoring, averaging 17.5 points per game. He is also sixth in the league in assists (5.1).
• Redshirt junior guard Marcus Jackson is averaging 13.6 points, 3.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds. He is fifth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2) and 10th in free throw percentage (.822).
• Sophomore guard Connor Cashaw is averaging 8.1 points and is second on the team with 5.0 rebounds.
• The Owls are second in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 82.9 points per game while allowing 73.8.
• Rice is second in the league in both field goal percentage (48.4%) and three-point field goal percentage (38.9%) while allowing 43.4% from the floor and 33.7% from three.
• The Owls are also second in the league with 9.1 three-pointers made per game.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is in his third season at the helm of the Rice basketball program. He owns a 34-44 (.436) record on South Main and a 231-120 (.658) record in 12 years as a head coach.

Scouting Charlotte
• Charlotte enters Monday night’s contest with a 7-5 record, 1-0 in Conference USA. The 49ers snapped a three-game losing on Saturday, defeating North Texas, 101-76 in their league opener.
• Sophomore guard Jon Davis leads the team in scoring, averaging 19.8 points per game, which is second in C-USA. He is also second in the league in three-point field goal percentage (51.3%), fourth in minutes (34.6) and 10th in field goal percentage (.534) and assists (3.5).
• Sophomore guard Andrien White is second on the team in scoring with 12.8 points. He is third in the league in three-pointers made per game (2.8), fourth in steals (1.8) and eighth in three-point field goal percentage (41.3%).
• Senior guard Braxton Ogbueze is averaging 11.6 points per game and is tied for eighth in the conference in three-pointers made per game (2.2).
• Charlotte is scoring 78.7 points per game but is allowing 80.8.
• The 49ers are connecting on 44.3% from the field and lead the league in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 39.2% from behind the arc. They are allowing 45.6% from the floor and 35.2 from three.
• Charlotte is getting outrebounded by 9.7 boards a game, 41.6-to-31.9.
• The 49ers also lead the league in steals (7.7).
• Head coach Mark Price is in his second season at the helm of the Charlotte men’s basketball program where he owns a 21-24 (.467) record.

Series History
• Rice and Charlotte will meet for the seventh time.
• Charlotte holds a 4-2 record in the series. In Charlotte, the series is tied 1-1.
• Rice won the first two games of the series but has dropped the last four.
• Last year, the Owls fell in all three meetings, 102-73 in Charlotte, 88-75 in Houston and 79-69 in the second round of the Conference USA Tournament.
• Head coach Mike Rhoades is 1-4 against Charlotte.
