Nick Michael came to South Main from VCU in April 2014, where he spent the 2013-14 season working with the Rams basketball team as strength and conditioning graduate assistant coach.
Prior to that 26-win campaign, he spent two seasons as an assistant basketball coach at his alma mater, Elmhurst College in Illinois.
At Elmhurst, Michael worked under head coach Mark Scherer, who he also played for from the 2003-04 through 2006-07 seasons. He ranks in the top 10 in the program's career record book in numerous categories, including points scored (1,199) and rebounds (588).
After earning a degree in Management Information Systems, Michael played basketball professionally in Ireland and Germany for four seasons. He also earned a degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from Elmhurst in 2013 while serving as an assistant coach and completed a Master of Education degree in Sport Leadership from VCU in 2014.
Michael holds numerous certifications, including Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (CSCCa), National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and USA Weightlifting Level 1 Performance Coach.
