Lamar claimed Saturday’s 14-inning fall exhibition over the Rice baseball team by a final score of 16-4. The Owls finished with ten hits, including sophomore third baseman Dane Myers who went 2-for-6 with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. Myers also threw a scoreless seventh inning with the score tied 4-4.
A predetermined total of 11 Owl pitchers saw action over the 14-innings, and combined for 13 strikeouts. Senior left-hander Blake Fox started and fired 2.0 scoreless frames. The Blue & Gray also welcomed the return of right-hander Jon Duplantier for his first action in two years after being sidelined for all of 2015. Duplantier fanned three batters in his only inning of work.
A total of eight true freshmen, including five position players and three pitchers, saw extended action for Rice over the course of the afternoon. The team’s fall training program continues into early November.
