LOS ANGELES -- Rice's Glenn Otto is participating in Baseball USA's 2016 Collegiate National Team training camp for a chance to represent the Owls, and his country, in the squad's international tour later this summer.

A total of 31 of the top underclassmen in the country are joining Team USA's training camp this week in California. The squad kicked off the trials portion of its schedule with a practice at the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy in Compton, Calif.

A 26-man Team USA roster will travel to Taichung, Taiwan, for a five-game friendship series against Chinese Taipei on July 5-9. From there, the team will cut down to its final 24-man roster for a five-game series against Japan with contests being held in Niigata, Tokyo, and Shizuoka from July 12-17. The Collegiate National Team will then conclude its summer tour by traveling to the Caribbean for the continuation of its annual series against Cuba, July 23-27, in Ciego de Avila, Havana and Pinar del Rio.

Otto posted sensational season with the Owls in 2016, earning First Team All-Conference USA honors as a relief pitcher. The sophomore right-hander tallied eight saves as well as a 9-2 record in 33 appearances out of the bullpen. He maintained a 2.26 ERA in 71.2 innings and held opposing hitters to a composite .209 batting average. The Spring, Texas, native averaged 9.5 strikeouts per 9.0 innings with a 2.5-to-1 strikeouts-to-walks ratio. At one point in the season Otto was named to the watch list for the national Stopper of the Year Award.
