PerfectGame.org 2012 All-Americans
OMAHA, Neb. - Rice's J.T. Chargois, a second round pick and the 72nd player taken overall in the recent Major League Baseball Draft, was named a third team All-America selection by PerfactGame.org the Internet publication announced Monday (June 25) from the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
Perfect Game tabbed Chargois as one of just three All-America Utility players (who contributed as both a hitter and pitcher). At Rice the versatile standout made 25 appearances on the mound (all in relief), with another 49 starts in the batting order as either the designated hitter (32 times) or at first base (17 times). As a pitcher he went 4-1 with a 2.15 ERA in 37.2 total innings. The Sulphur, La., native led the team and ranked among the Conference USA league leaders with eight saves. He maintained a steady .211 opponents' batting average with a 1.12 WHIP, and averaged 9.1 strikeouts-per-nine innings.
Chargois was named a First Team All-Conference USA (UTILITY/DH) on a vote of the league's head coaches. He signed a professional contract after being selected in the 2012 MLB draft by the Minnesota Twins. A full listing of Perfect Game's 2012 All-America selections appears at the above link.
