IRVING, Texas - Rice's Andrew Murphy, a senior on the Owls' baseball team, is one of 16 Conference USA student-athletes to receive the league's Spirit of Service Award for the Spring. The award recognizes community service, academic achievement and participation in their elected sport.

Earlier this semester he won the Bob Quin Award as Rice's top male student, maintaining a 3.65 GPA as a kinesiology major. Murphy has been a fixture on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and was the program's 2013 Rice Scholar Athlete. A native of Shreveport, La., he was a three-time letterman as a reserve catcher for the Owl teams that have won three C-USA titles and advanced to the NCAA Championships each season.
